offers you a range of free training, designed to help you improve your business and stimulate growth

 

 

BUSINESS SUPPORT COURSES

 

CIEH Level 2 Health & Safety in the Workplace - Wednesday 20th April 2016 – 9.30am to 4.30pm

Recommended by Health & Safety Executive, this is a minimum level of training for the workplace, covering all essential practical advice and guidance from the health and safety at work act standards. Course is designed and focuses on ensuring that all employees are aware of their own safety and the safety of customers, contractors and the public. It is applicable in any private or public sector environment. This one day course leads to the nationally recognised certificate and culminates in a short multiple choice exam

The following topics will be covered:

- Understanding the principles of health and safety and accident prevention

- Ability to contribute to any health and safety management system

- Understand the importance of risk assessment as a technique for accident and ill health prevention

- Understand the responsibilities placed on employers and employees

- Understand the hazard, risk and main causes of harm to workers (manual handling, hazardous substances, exposure to noise and vibration)

- Understand the importance of following systems, procedures and rules

- Understand how individual action can reduce risks to health and safety

- Appreciate how workplace equipment and task design affect health and safety

 

Food Safety in Catering CIEH Level 2 - Wednesday 27th April 2016 – 9.30am to 4.30pm

This course is for anyone working in a catering or hospitality setting where food is prepared, cooked and served. It aims to raise awareness and understanding of food hygiene issues and will enable learners to fulfil their obligations under food hygiene regulations.  Each delegate will receive comprehensive course notes/booklet to take away with them. This one day course leads to the nationally recognised certificate, valid for 3 years and culminates in a short multiple choice exam.

The following topics will be covered:

- Legislation

- Food safety hazards - including some bacteriology

- Temperature control, refrigeration, chilling and cold holding

- Cooking, hot holding and reheating

- Food handling, principles of safe food storage

- Cleaning, food premises and equipment

- Pest control, personal hygiene

- Food poisoning / food borne illness

 

HABC Level 2 Fire Safety Awareness - Wednesday 4th May 2016 – 9.30am to 4.30pm

This course is recommended by Health & Safety Executive for anyone involved in the management of fire safety in any workplace environment. This course can lead to individual employees being given appointed person status. This one day course leads to the nationally recognised certificate and culminates in a short multiple choice exam

The following topics will be covered:

- Causes of fire in the workplace

- Fire hazards

- Characteristics of fire and smoke spread

- Fire control methods

- Means of escape

- Fire detection and raising the alarm

- Extinguishing fires

- Fixed fire-fighting systems

- The regulatory reform (fire safety) order 2005

- Legal duties and penalties

- Fire risk assessment

- Fire safety inspections

- Role of the fire warden

- Induction briefing

 

Level 2 Emergency First Aid at Work - Thursday 12th May – 9.30am to 4.30pm

Recommended by Health & Safety Executive, this is a minimum level of first aid training for the workplace, appropriate for low-risk environments or in addition to fully trained first aiders.  On completion, candidates become your appointed persons who take charge when someone is injured or falls ill, including calling an ambulance if required. National y recognised certificated course, valid for 3 years duration. Course is a variety of practical and theory sessions including CPR. This one day course leads to the nationally recognised certificate, valid for 3 years and culminates in a short multiple choice exam.

The following topics will be covered:

- Roles and responsibilities of a first aider
- Assessing an incident
- Unconscious casualties
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Choking
- External bleeding
- Shock
- Minor injuries

 

Social Media/On-Line Sales/E-Commerce/Merchandising  – Tuesday 24th May 2016 – 9.30am to 4.30pm

This course is aimed at all business owners, employees and staff involved in anything to do with the business being more outward facing beyond the usual footfall customers and looking to move the company into the 21st century open market we now find ourselves in and that is expanding and developing. All businesses in today’s market need and must have an online presence to sustain sales and potential growth opportunities. There is overlap between the topics which is why this course is an interlocking mix of subject headings.

The following topics will be covered:

- Using social media to help enhance your business performance

- An introduction to and illustration of the various social media channels available

- Identifying which ones best suit your business and marketing segments

- The physical processes of setting up and running your social media channels

- Examples of best practice within the industry

- How to produce engaging content

- Tips to help your business become digitally discoverable

- Available tools to streamline your social media activity and work flow

- Integrating your social media with your existing marketing and promotion

- Use of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Periscope, Google Plus – these are the key ones currently

- Moving your business into the digital market

- Undertaking a digital review of your current activity

- Opportunities for expanding your sales online

- Examples of best practice in online sales/ecommerce

- Using Mailchimp to manage your email campaigns for promoting your business online

- Integrating your digital and offline merchandising strategies

- Ensuring your systems are capable of handling online sales (capacity for fulfilling orders

 

Course Costs – all the courses listed are free to your business and funded through Penrith BID or Cumbria EDGE funding

Each course runs over one full day, from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm at a venue in Penrith town centre. Two servings of tea and coffee will be provided you must provide your own lunch.
