offers you a range of free training, designed to help you improve your business and stimulate growth

 

 

BUSINESS SUPPORT COURSES

 

Fire Safety Awareness - Tuesday 9th May 2017 – 9.30am to 4.30pm

This course is recommended for anyone involved in the management of fire safety in any workplace environment. This course can lead to individual employees being given appointed person status. This one day course leads to the nationally recognised certificate and culminates in a short multiple choice exam

 

The following topics will be covered:

- Causes of fire in the workplace

- Fire hazards

- Characteristics of fire and smoke spread

- Fire control methods

- Means of escape

- Fire detection and raising the alarm

- Extinguishing fires

- Fixed fire-fighting systems

- The regulatory reform (fire safety) order 2005

- Legal duties and penalties

- Fire risk assessment

- Fire safety inspections

- Role of the fire warden

- Induction briefing

 

 

 

Introduction to IT Skills – Monday 24th April 2017 – 9.30am to 4.30pm

This course is for anyone working within the customer service sector and is needing to understand better the use of IT within business. How this can help and assist with your business needs and the usage of it as an important business tool and communication/recording hub.

 

The following topics will be covered:

- Understanding the basic computer layout and key features

- Ability to use the basic functions, such as word, print, copy, internet, browser functions, save and email features

- Understand the importance and functionality of emailing/responding/sending

- Understand the responsibilities around internet safety

- Appreciate how this can assist my business needs

 

 

 

CIEH Level 2 Health & Safety in the Workplace - Tuesday 25th April 2017 – 9.30am to 4.30pm

Recommended by Health & Safety Executive, this is a minimum level of training for the workplace, covering all essential practical advice and guidance from the health and safety at work act standards. Course is designed and focuses on ensuring that all employees are aware of their own safety and the safety of customers, contractors and the public. It is applicable in any private or public sector environment. This one day course leads to the nationally recognised certificate and culminates in a short multiple choice exam

 

The following topics will be covered:

- Understanding the principles of health and safety and accident prevention

- Ability to contribute to any health and safety management system

- Understand the importance of risk assessment as a technique for accident and ill health prevention

- Understand the responsibilities placed on employers and employees

- Understand the hazard, risk and main causes of harm to workers (manual handling, hazardous substances, exposure to noise and vibration)

- Understand the importance of following systems, procedures and rules

- Understand how individual action can reduce risks to health and safety

- Appreciate how workplace equipment and task design affect health and safety

 

 

Food Safety in Catering CIEH Level 2 - Tuesday 2nd May 2017 – 9.30am to 4.30pm

This course is for anyone working in a catering or hospitality setting where food is prepared, cooked and served. It aims to raise awareness and understanding of food hygiene issues and will enable learners to fulfil their obligations under food hygiene regulations.  Each delegate will receive comprehensive course notes/booklet to take away with them. This one day course leads to the nationally recognised certificate, valid for 3 years and culminates in a short multiple choice exam.

The following topics will be covered:

- Legislation

- Food safety hazards - including some bacteriology

- Temperature control, refrigeration, chilling and cold holding

- Cooking, hot holding and reheating

- Food handling, principles of safe food storage

- Cleaning, food premises and equipment

- Pest control, personal hygiene

- Food poisoning / food borne illness

 

 

 

 

Level 2 Emergency First Aid at Work - Wednesday 3rd May – 9.30am to 4.30pm

Recommended by Health & Safety Executive, this is a minimum level of first aid training for the workplace, appropriate for low-risk environments or in addition to fully trained first aiders.  On completion, candidates become your appointed persons who take charge when someone is injured or falls ill, including calling an ambulance if required. National y recognised certificated course, valid for 3 years duration. Course is a variety of practical and theory sessions including CPR. This one day course leads to the nationally recognised certificate, valid for 3 years and culminates in a short multiple choice exam.

 

The following topics will be covered:

- Roles and responsibilities of a first aider
- Assessing an incident
- Unconscious casualties
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Choking
- External bleeding
- Shock
- Minor injuries

 

 

Course Costs – all the courses listed are free to your business and funded through Penrith BID

Each course runs over one full day, from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm at a venue in Penrith town centre. Two servings of tea and coffee will be provided you must provide your own lunch.
